Sanitarium (1998)

A wicked adventure game

Sanitarium is a a true example of unique games that were made in the late 1990’s. It was released in 1998 and I believe I played it shortly after. My favorite game genre at the time was point-and-click adventures, so Sanitarium fit right into my collection.

It is such a freaky and sometimes scary game that it took me a bit to figure out and finish the story. Also, I was barely understanding everything in the game due to language. All these games actually helped improve my language skills.

Anyway, the game takes places inside Max’s (the protagonist) mind after an accident. He is placed in coma after his car was tampered with, and tries to escape his own mind back to reality. The game is filled with nightmarish locations, characters, and weird dialogue.

It is available on Steam which is good for games like these, so it can be experienced with new generation of game players too.
